"Lamelas"

Lamelas is set amongst vineyards, olive groves and almond trees at the top of the Quinta de la Rosa estate. It has one of the most spectacular views in the Douro valley in a remote and tranquil setting. The house dates from the C17th and was restored to the highest standard in 1992 with many original features retained. The Quinta de la Rosa winery (guided tours, tastings and shop) and Pinhao with local shops, restaurants and bars 2km, more shops in Vila Real or Alijo, about 30 mins drive

Accommodation: double sitting room with carved and painted ceilings, dining room, three double bedrooms en suite and large fully equipped kitchen. The swimming pool (12x4m) looks over the Douro Valley and is surrounded by terraces, on one of which is a barbeque. There is a small garden with a fountain made from an old olive press and an outdoor shaded eating area with fabulous views stretching below

The property is accessed along an unpaved road (about 1km) from Gouvaes village, narrow with a vertical drop on one side but well worth the journey. Linen (except beach/pool towels) provided. Maid service weekly and weekly linen change. Arrive Saturday 1600, depart 1000. Minimum booking 7 nights July-September, 5 nights by arrangement otherwise
